Search for World Irish Stew Champion!

February 5, 2010

Delicious locally produced food and traditional Irish craic is at the heart of So Sligo Food & Culture Festival 2010.  From the World Irish Stew Championship to the allure of dining by the sea and surf, the festival is a perfect encore to Paddy’s Day and takes place from the 19th – 21st of March.

The streets of Sligo will come alive with a spectacular carnival and live traditional music. The festival takes in the best restaurants in the area, where a complete evening meal will cost just 20 euro for a limited time. Sample the best in fresh and free range at the farmer markets or forage for your own on one of our exclusive food trails.

Meet Sligo’s most celebrated chefs, including the highly acclaimed Neven Maguire. Young chefs of the future will also have the opportunity to shine in the Junior Master Chef Competition, with some star prizes.  Seaweed expert Prannie Rhatigan, whose book ‘Irish Seaweed Kitchen’ has become a massive hit, will be on hand to share her culinary secrets.

Chairperson, Margaret Heffernan says, “We have people travelling over from America, the UK and of course the four corners of Ireland. The festival is a feast for both foodies and families. We’re offering incredible fresh cuisine and entertainment, set against the backdrop of the mountains, sea and surf. Not forgetting the warm Sligo welcome!”
